There's Hope For Today

DAY 332 OF 366

A boy grows up with interchangeable video friends. He flips through twenty channels in 40 seconds. His compressed attention span demands information packaged in 15-second sound bites.

Why watch a movie when a music video tells it all in three minutes? Why read a book when a video supplies imagination? Why grapple with reality when “virtual reality” offers a broad selection? He’s growing up in a world high on choice and low on commitment. He speeds through adolescence bouncing in and out of short-term relationships. By the time he reaches mid-life he is stung by the realization that his life has no direction. He is a masterpiece without a master plan ... an abstract. Constant change has left him physically, emotionally and spiritually overdrawn.

In the absence of commitment his choices become increasingly tiresome. Nobody ever told him that you could take a multiple-choice test and choose all the wrong answers. By 50 he agrees with Donald Trump: “Nothing in life is what it’s cracked up to be.” Life, with unlimited options, does not work without commitments, foundations, and vows.

Commit! Stick to it! Follow through! No man can truly live without roots.
