There's Hope For Today

DAY 330 OF 366

The Indianapolis 500 is the most celebrated motor race in the world. The flag drops and forty incredible machines rip around the track at more than 200 miles per hour – a spectacle.
Before the race starts, sports commentators rush from pit to pit, hoping to catch an interview with driver or crew chief. Before the race, attention is divided between forty racing stories. Every driver climbs into a shining bullet. Every crew chief wonders if this will be his big day. Every owner sees himself in victory lane. Every driver’s wife envisions her husband safely home. The pace car leads the field through warm-up laps. The tension mounts as all await a green flag – with a thundering crescendo the cars cross the start/finish line. The crowd stands as one. The race is begun.
At this point everything shifts from start to finish. It doesn’t really matter how, or where a driver started. What matters is how he finishes. If a driver gets reckless, he courts disaster. If a driver gets sleepy, he’s in the wall. The race is a race for the finish!
Life is that way. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. It’s not where you’ve been, it’s where you’re going. It’s not about a good beginning, it’s about the checkered flag.
