There's Hope For Today

DAY 315 OF 366

The lame man could not see beyond his experience. Because others had been healed when the waters were stirred, he believed he could only be healed in the troubled waters. The One who sculpted the mountains and created light was standing within a few meters, but he wasn’t aware of His identity.

Though we know who Jesus is, and how He works, we often follow the pattern of the lame man at the pool. We fix in our minds a rigid framework of what needs to be done, and how it needs to be done. For example, a man needs a job – prays for a job – seeks a job – but will not consider anything outside of his field of past experience. A woman cries out for deliverance from depression. Because she is convinced that her husband or wayward daughter is the cause of her depression, she prays that God would change them.

God doesn’t always approach our problems on a familiar path. He is creative beyond our imagination. He sees the whole picture while we see only shadows. Sometimes grace is sufficient. Sometimes His answer has never entered our minds.

It’s not about troubled waters – it’s about the presence and power of the Lord. Don’t presume that God will be limited to a single course of action.
