There's Hope For TodaySample
HIV is classed as a retrovirus. Unlike viruses that invade the body to be killed off by our immune systems, HIV copies its DNA blueprint into the host cell’s chromosomes. Even if HIV is overcome by the body’s immune system, the copied blueprint begins to churn out new HIV. To kill the invader, you have to kill the host.
Sin is not a floating virus picked up by mankind at some stage in our lifecycle. Through Adam’s fall, sin was written into our spiritual DNA, like a retrovirus. To kill the invader, you have to kill the host.
Paul understood this principle nineteen centuries before we knew of viruses and retroviruses. The eradication of sin comes only through death. Victory over sin comes only through the resurrection life imparted to us by God through the death of His Son Jesus. The glory of the cross is that sin can be “killed off” in the host through the death of another. Jesus took on himself the sins of the whole world that we might be clean to the very core of our being; to the DNA of the soul (1 John 2:2).
We are modern-day miracles. We are creatures of eternal significance. Through Christ, we have triumphed over the ultimate death. In Christ we have gained eternal life.
