There's Hope For Today

DAY 185 OF 366

John Maxwell made a sobering point when he said, “Every genius could have been a failure.”

We can all get a free ticket for the “loser” train. All we have to do is quit. Persistence has often been mistaken for genius. Faithfulness has often been mistaken for giftedness. Determination is often disguised as brilliance. Greatness is birthed out of a refusal to give up. In 1922, Harry was 38 years old, in debt, and out of work. By 1945, he was the most powerful leader in the free world. Harry S. Truman refused to quit. His story numbers with thousands of others who achieved greatness through persistence. Their stars burn bright to guide generations. Far beneath those stars, the landscape is littered with the husks of burned out dreams and “could have beens.” Excuses here are chiseled in the gravestones of regret. Blame hugs the ground like a toxic mist. Time might as well stand still – nobody’s going anywhere, or doing anything.

We each must make our decision, to reach for the stars or ramble about the graveyard. Life is hard. People fail. Dreams die. Fights are lost. If you’ve lived at all, you’ve been knocked down. Get up – get smart – gain wisdom – trust God. You’re not a loser until you quit!
