2 SamuelSample
You have finished 2 Samuel (and one chapter of 1 Chronicles)! Over the past five weeks, you have learned all about David’s reign and his relationship with God. But most importantly, you have learned about how God interacts with His people, how he continues to provide for them, and reminds them of who He is.
In this last week of 2 Samuel we read about David and his final words and moments as king. In these chapters, we are able to see how David interacts and praises God, even through the difficult situations of dealing with Saul's sin or disobeying God when David counts Israel’s army.
Often in our own lives, it is easy to praise God and be reminded of who he is when things are going well. In David’s final days, he reminds us that we should be continually seeking after the Lord, coming to him in our brokenness and praising God for everything he does. I know for me, when I am going through a difficult situation, my gut instinct isn’t to run toward God, but instead to try and do everything on my own. However, when we try and do things on our own, we miss out on experiencing God’s different attributes. When we come to God and bring him into a situation, we are able to see how truly loving, gracious, powerful, and all-knowing God is.
Looking back at the Word
1. Read back to how David responded and sought after the Lord. Do you respond to God as David did? Why or why not?
2. How can you make it part of your weekly routine to have moments to praise God? Who can you ask to join with you in praising God?
Questions to consider:
1. What are some major takeaways from 2 Samuel? What were some key moments in 2 Samuel that stood out to you? Were there any new stories or aspects of David’s life that you learned about for the first time?
2. How would you summarize 2 Samuel in two sentences?
3. Now that you have finished reading 2 Samuel, what book of the Bible do you want to go through next? Who can you ask to join you in reading?
Let’s pray: Father, help me to see how you are faithful to me like you were to David. God, when I am in a difficult situation, I pray that I would seek after you and not things of this world. Remind me in those moments that only you can comfort me and will guide me where I need to go.
About this Plan
