Running the Race: 5-Days of Encouragements for an Active LifestyleSample
Giving Rest to Others
Jesus said these words while preaching in Galilee with his disciples and the Pharisees who followed him. They are loving words from a merciful King.
They free us from carrying our burdens ourselves. They call us to find rest in him.
They also call us to be people who give rest to others. Just a few chapters later, Jesus talks about how “the King” will know his sheep on the day of judgement. He says in Matthew 25: 35-36, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothes me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
Helping those in need, lightening their load, is the sign of a person who Jesus knows.
Just like Mike, who continually told his team how strong and capable they were on completing their bike ride, you can help renew others each day. Like the Good Samaritan who stopped to give pickle juice to two exhausted bike riders, you can notice the needs of your family members, friends, or strangers today and answer them.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
How can we be people who give rest to others in everyday life?
At Lifewater, thousands of people each year choose to give rest to others by giving safe water. In Uganda, Ethiopia, Cambodia, and Tanzania, children are drinking water from swamps, rivers, and springs, but there is hope. By running a race, climbing a mountain, or swimming miles, you can raise funds for safe water! Contact Lifewater at info@lifewater.org today, or go online to Lifewater.org/projects.
