Running the Race: 5-Days of Encouragements for an Active LifestyleSample
We Can’t Run Without God
It can easy to forget the incredible power of the God we serve. Instead, we rely on ourselves. On our own bodies, our own wisdom. And we place the grandness of God somewhere in a dark corner of our minds.
Hoist it out of the dark today, because we can’t do it on our own. Bring it to the forefront and consider it.
Jeremiah 31:35 says that God decrees the moon and stars to shine by night. He stirs up the sea, causing it’s waves to roar. Psalm 89 says, “You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.”
In Matthew, Jesus falls asleep on the fishing boat with his disciples. A storm begins, and the disciples become afraid and wake Jesus up to save them.
Matthew 8:26 says, “He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.”
In Luke 19, Jesus’s disciples begin praising him, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!”
The Pharisees, astounded, say, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
Jesus says, “I tell you… if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
God is so worthy of praise that creation demands it. But, we’re often guilty of remembering God’s grandness only when we desperately need His help, just like the disciples on the boat. Instead, we try to do it ourselves. The truth is: we weren’t made to do it ourselves.
What would it look like if we cried out to God when the waves and wind were calm? What if we brought the great grandness of God to our minds every day, humbling ourselves?
