Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 47 OF 63

He is close

This song of praise focuses on the nearness of our God. He is not a far off, distant God, but one who is intimately involved in our lives.

The psalmist warns not to put your trust in princes or in human beings who cannot save us. Sometimes, it is easy to trust the people around us more than we trust God, because they are tangible and physically right in front of us. But the reality is, these people will fade. These people, like us, will return to dust; there will be a day when either them or us will have to live without the other, whereas God is eternal – He never dies and is always with us. Not only this, but God is close to us. This is remarkable because, as verse 6 proclaims, “He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them”. A powerful God like our Creator God wants to be intimately involved in our lives!

We see how close He is in these next verses, as verses 7-9 talk about those who are vulnerable. God takes care of the oppressed, the hungry, the prisoners. He watches over the foreigner, and sustains the fatherless and the widow. All the people that society at that time (and to some degree our society now) would toss to the side and deem as unclean, God wants to know and take care of and love.

He is a wonderful Father. A close Father, who wants us to know Him, who created the earth and everything in it, who created us, and who empowers the vulnerable. It almost seems too good to be true – and not only this, He gives us Jesus. It is a remarkable gospel!

Questions

Do you let these truths sink into your life?

How often do you think about them?

How would it change you if you thought about the wonderful reality of the gospel we believe in!?

Pray

Heavenly Father,

Remind me daily of these truths. Remind me that you are …….

Thank you for who you are. Thank you that you are …….

Sorry that I so often forget these truths and let them fall to the wayside. Help me to always find joy in who you are!

Amen.

About this Plan

Abiding in the Psalms

The Psalms express the feelings and emotions that sometimes we find too hard to express to God by ourselves. Through diving into the Psalms and their different forms , the aim is that readers can lead prayer-filled lives, crying out, praising and worshipping our God through every season and in every moment.
