Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 38 OF 63

Pardon Powers Praise

One of the main indicators that this psalm is written in David’s older years is the value he places on his forgiveness. David focuses a lot of this psalm on God’s redemptive qualities. It appears that the older he gets, the more he understands how outrageous it is that God would have anything to do with humanity. He understands the weight of his sin, how helpless he is and how good our God is for not treating us how we deserve. His response then is to bow down in worship.

Paul shows a similar sentiment in 1 Timothy 1:15 - “ Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.” It seems as though David and Paul didn’t get stronger as they matured, they got weaker. As they aged they didn’t think they got better, they became more and more aware of how much they needed God. And as they focused on their pardon, their praise got louder.

Spend some time reflecting on what salvation actually means. Think about what God has saved you from and what He has saved you for. If a lack of praise is a problem in your life, take the time to get familiar with what God has done for you. When you understand your pardon from sin, your praise will naturally follow!

Questions

What has He saved you for?

What are 3 things in your life you can be grateful for?

Pray

Dear God, thank you for saving my life. Thank you for the daily blessings; your mercies are new every morning. Give me a fresh understanding of my sin and your saving grace. Amen.

About this Plan

Abiding in the Psalms

The Psalms express the feelings and emotions that sometimes we find too hard to express to God by ourselves. Through diving into the Psalms and their different forms , the aim is that readers can lead prayer-filled lives, crying out, praising and worshipping our God through every season and in every moment.
