Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 31 OF 63

Fully Equipped

Have you ever heard the term “Shout it from the rooftops!”? It’s an expression that is used when something is so important, urgent and exciting that the only logical thing to do would be to tell anyone and everyone! This is what David does in this psalm. He shouts for joy. I want to emphasise for you two key truths:

1. God is my foundation, I will never be shaken.

God is described as a rock because a rock is a sturdy foundation. In biblical times, buildings that were built on rocks were strong and could withstand harsh weather conditions. In the same way, when God – whose power is unmatched – is our rock, we will not be shaken by the harshness of life. The stronger the rock, the stronger the building. The stronger our foundation, the stronger we are. There is no stronger foundation than God and with Him as our foundation we will never be shaken.

2. The world is full of hope that fades.

In contrast to God, the world has many things that seem valuable but are temporary and shallow. “Though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” Our hope in God will never fade and will be more satisfying.

Questions

1. Why do the things of this world never fully satisfy us? What are some of these things?

2. What will you choose to be your foundation?

3. What drives David to shout this psalm from the rooftops?

Pray

Father, thank you that you are my foundation and my strength and I will never be shaken. I surrender the things that I have been using as a foundation outside of You…

About this Plan

Abiding in the Psalms

The Psalms express the feelings and emotions that sometimes we find too hard to express to God by ourselves. Through diving into the Psalms and their different forms , the aim is that readers can lead prayer-filled lives, crying out, praising and worshipping our God through every season and in every moment.
