Abiding in the PsalmsSample

God is our constant
This psalm has 3 parts.
In part 1 we see God is the place we run to when the world is falling apart. He is our ever-present help in trouble. The image is of chaotic water, and of the rocky cliff mountains collapsing and falling into the ocean in an earthquake - God stands firm against the chaos.
In Part 2, God’s dwelling place is a quiet stream. Now nations are the chaotic waters, and the kingdoms are collapsing, but God’s city is a fortress that withstands the uproar. Inside this city there is peace. Almighty God speaks and the earth melts away.
In part 3, the psalmist declares that God has defied the nations and brought peace – His desolation means an end to war. He breaks all our weapons, demands that the countries stop the uproar, and everyone will be still before Him. When God declares peace, the nations listen. God is above every kingdom and country in this world.
Our world can be overwhelming, but we have a God who gives us hope. He is the God who can make a peaceful river out of an ocean storm. God is solid ground when the earth is melting. Whether it is countries going to war, our family getting sick, the economy going badly, or a global pandemic where nothing feels stable anymore - the world we live in can feel out of control. Remember that our God will withstand it all. Pray to God, trust him, and have the perspective to realise that the world will keep on going. Your life is in His hands, and because of that you are safe.
Prayer
God, you are in control. When the world is in chaos you are steadfast. Give me your perspective to see that this is just a moment in history. Nations rise and nations fall – but you have remained the same forever. Let me trust in you, let me look to what is fixed and permanent, and help me to value the things that are important to you. Help me to prioritise the things of heaven, and remember that you are the one who knows how all of this ends. Lord let me be still in the chaos, and remind me that you are God. Give me peace in my mind, and bring peace to this world.

About this Plan

The Psalms express the feelings and emotions that sometimes we find too hard to express to God by ourselves. Through diving into the Psalms and their different forms , the aim is that readers can lead prayer-filled lives, crying out, praising and worshipping our God through every season and in every moment.
