In the Beginning Was the WordSample
The glory of the land of Israel was that it was Emmanuel's land (Isa. viii. 8), and not only the place of Jesus' birth, but the scene of his preaching and miracles.
The land Jesus walked was divided into three parts: Judea in the south, Galilee in the north, and Samaria lying between them. Now, in this chapter, we have Jesus in each of these three parts of that land.
Departing out of Judea, ver. 1-3, passing through Samaria, and coming into Samaria, ver. 4-6. His conversation with the Samaritan woman at a well is very significant, ver. 7-26.
Finally, we find Jesus residing for some time in Galilee (ver. 43-46), and his curing a nobleman's son that was at death's door, ver. 46-54.
