FCA Endurance: Becoming IronFitSample
Train with Periodization
Ready:
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2
Set:
It’s possible to plateau while training, where we can’t seem to improve our fitness. What’s worked for some time no longer works, and our fitness becomes frustratingly stagnant. A coach’s remedy for this is periodized training: structured training around periods of progressively-loaded training where stress is followed by rest. It involves increasing training specificity, intensity, and volume over time.
While this may seem like a highly technical concept, it’s a proven training method. If you’re in a time of spiritual dryness, you can try the periodization training method to improve your relationship with God. Each day, you can increase your specificity, intensity, your prayer time, fellowship, and reading God’s Word.
God’s Word is a game plan for life and a complete training manual. It contains everything we need to maintain a close relationship with Him. When you get into the routine of a good periodized training plan, you're more likely to avoid injury and achieve peak performance. This applies to both your physical and spiritual fitness. By staying in God’s Word consistently, you’ll be better equipped to run the race God has prepared you for.
Go:
1. Are you able to understand the Bible you have? Do you feel connected with His Word?
2. Do you meet with God and read His Word daily? How can you improve this by using the periodization method?
Workout:
1 Timothy 4:7-8
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Overtime:
“Lord, thank You for Your Holy Bible that leads and guides me into closer fellowship with You. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit that brings me into alignment with You and Your will. You have revealed Your will in Your Word and set it before me. Help me to stay connected to You every day by spending time with You and listening to Your voice.”

About this Plan
This plan is a ten-day guide to increasing your spiritual strength and performance. Many endurance athletes spend hours, days, and months training to compete in an event like Ironman but may not spend time training for their spiritual journey. These athletes have an intense training regimen that can be duplicated in your spiritual training with God. The next ten days prepares you for that. Let the training and competition begin!
