DAY 17 OF 50

A Binary Choice.

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. Romans 12:2 AMPC

On the matter of corporate culture, there are only two options available to pursue: to be “conformed to this world” (Romans 12:2) or “to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29). Too often, however, the Christian business leader is misguided in thinking it is possible to do a bit of both. Here's the outcome of that sort of thinking... “I know your [record of] works and what you are doing; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth!" (Revelation 3:15-16 AMPC).

From this verse, it is clear that it is impossible to do the acceptable will of God while trying to adapt rather than repudiate the customs of the world. To do the will of God in business, the believer has to renew his mind (corporate mindset and culture) with “new ideals.”

What are these new ideals and where can they be found? The sum total of it is Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life.

The Lord began to speak in specifics about these new ideals on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5). “You have heard that ...” He would say to the crowd, describing what was acceptable hitherto and then go on to set forth the new ideal with, “but I say to you...”

The big question to answer today is, on which and whose ideals are you building corporate culture? Take time to read that sermon found in Matthew 5-7 and evaluate your corporate culture in the light of the instructions therein.
