DAY 16 OF 50

Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. Matthew 5:20 KJV

The scribes and Pharisees were fastidious at keeping the Mosaic Law. They painstakingly observed its tiniest detail: “you tithe of your mint and dill and cumin,” Jesus once said about them. Yet, the Lord calls us to an even higher standard of righteousness. He says, “... unless your righteousness (your uprightness and your right standing with God) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20 AMPC).

In reality, therefore, the standard that grace sets is way higher than that which the law demands.

While thinking about corporate culture then, the believer must come to terms with the fact that our calling isn't conventional. It is described as “the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. (Philippians 3:14 KJV) The believer must do better than just try to meet the legal requirements of the law: that is merely the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees. You must go the extra mile to satisfy the standards of the high calling of God.

This week, as you explore various subjects bothering on the corporate culture that you are building within your business, a key thing to keep in mind is that God is not impressed with merely skirting the boundaries of legality. It is important to note that  “ All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]." (1 Corinthians 10:23 AMP).

Bearing in mind that the ultimate objective of God is “constructive to character and edifying of the spiritual life” or to put it more directly, “until Christ be formed in you”; it becomes pertinent that you must work to distinguish the character of your business from that which is merely the legal and generally accepted convention.

Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14 KJV). Think about that for a while. This implies that you are in an entirely different class from the convention. In fact, you are responsible for setting convention. Your job is to set a standard of excellence that forms the benchmark for all others. That is your job.
