7 Days of Experiencing God’s Infinite GraceSample
Wellspring
Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.’
John 4:13-14
Jesus asserts that anything earthly eventually runs out. If we hook our hope onto anything other than Jesus (like, a career, a country, a church leader, a spouse or friend), we’ll end up disappointed—and thirstier than before. For sure, we can hope for good things for a person we love. We can hope for good things to arise from a particular situation. But we can’t expect anything or anyone other than Jesus to provide our peace, wellbeing or security. He’s the hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:5).
Isaiah wrote, “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it's all free!” (Isaiah 55:1). It seems too good to be true, but it is: the water of life is not only accessible and available—it’s free.
Food for Thought: Water is life.
Water covers 70% of the Earth’s surface, and our bodies are made up of around the same percentage. Water is involved in everything from regulating body temperature to carrying nutrients and waste products throughout your body. It allows metabolic reactions to occur, acts as a lubricant and cushion around joints, and forms the amniotic sac surrounding a fetus. Obey your thirst. It’s life-giving.
