Part Four - God will use me
We’ve read about how God had a plan and used Esther in order to save His people. Today we are going to look at the story of Gideon and how God used him to answer the prayers of God’s people. God’s people were not following the way that God had shown them to live. They cried out to God for Him to help them, God answered their prayers by sending Gideon to help them!
In Judges, an Angel appeared to Gideon and said to him ‘You are a mighty warrior, you will save God’s people?’ How do you think Gideon reacted? How would you have reacted?
In response to the Angel Gideon said that he was not from an important or rich family and that he was the least important person. Gideon focused on himself and who he was, rather than remembering that he had God with him, protecting him. He had discounted himself because he didn’t think that he was good enough to do what God was calling him to do. Do you sometimes feel or say that you can’t do something because you are too young, too small, too slow or too shy?
Our memory verse says that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13). God wants us to go to Him when we are unsure, with our questions and our concerns so that He can help us and reveal himself to us. He wants us to remember that He is always with us, and we can do anything if He is with us!
Gideon took 300 men into battle with him – it doesn’t really sound that many does it? But Gideon trusted God. They surrounded the enemy camp and scared them away! God used Gideon to save His people and to make a difference! You can make a difference for the people in your world too – your friends, teachers, family. Have a think about who is in your life that you can help today.
Ask:
Can you think of ways that God is using you or has used you to make a difference?
Pray:
Dear God, thank you that you make me bold and brave. Thank you that you have called me to make a difference. Please reveal to me the people that I can help today. Thank you that I can do all things because you are always with me. Amen.
About this Plan
We are called to live a life that reflects Jesus and affects those around us. Our prayers, the way we look after other people and how we respond in tough times have the power to create waves in the world around us. In this devotional, for kids aged 4-11 years, we will be looking at Wavemakers in the Bible and how we too can create waves!
