Faith or Fear?
Joshua 18:3; 19:47
“‘So Joshua said to the Israelites: ‘How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?’…(But the Danites had difficulty taking possession of their territory, so they went up and attacked Leshem, took it, put it to the sword and occupied it…and name it Dan after their forefather.”)
When the tribe of Dan saw the size of the giants in the Philistine cities within their territory, they pulled back from taking possession of them. The angel of the Lord would have helped them, but they relied on their own strength and gave in to fear. Fear opens the door to rebellion. By refusing God’s inheritance for them, they invaded a city within Asher’s inheritance (in Leshem or Laish), and killed the inhabitants of that peaceful city (where there were no giants), then imparted their own priest and idols rather than worship the living God (Judges 18). Fear opened the door to rebellion and idolatry. Had they possessed the Philistine cities, they would have experienced many miracles with God’s supernatural deliverance and provision.
Will we follow faith or fear toward our inheritance?
Lord Jesus, I choose to follow your inheritance for my life – not the one I choose for myself. You are my life and I live for your glory.
