Give Me This Hill Country
Joshua 14:12
“Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
Caleb’s heart was to see God’s inheritance and glory cover the land, including the most difficult, challenging regions. The hill country of Hebron was guarded by the giant Anakites, the same giants that had terrified the twelve spies. Caleb’s request is based on the promises and power of God. There are many of the least reached people groups and regions of the world still guarded by giants while we enjoy green pasture, quiet waters and peace; these regions are ruled by fear and conflict.
Will we call out to God for the “hill country” for the hardest, darkest, most oppressed places on earth?
Hebron later became a “city of refuge,” a safe place in Israel. God is able to transform the destiny of any person, place or people.
Lord Jesus, give me the hill countries of North Korea, Laos, China, Central Asia, North India, West Africa and the Persian Gulf. You are able to pour out your Spirit and disarm the giants. Set those captive peoples free, for your glory.
