Confronting Worldly Thinking
Mark 8:31-33
“He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things…be rejected…be killed…and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter, ‘Get behind me, Satan!’ he said. ‘You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.’”
Jesus rebuked Peter for the sake of the disciples, not just because he was in error. The leadership role that Peter played meant that his opinions carried extra weight. This teaching of the cross and Christ’s mission of salvation was essential, despite being illogical. Satan was tempting and fighting Jesus at every step of his journey, using even his disciples to oppose his mission and teachings.
Are we willing to confront worldly thinking by others for the sake of the gospel and the mission of God?
Have relativism and tolerance become of higher value to us than the teachings of the cross and of suffering?
Lord Jesus, I pray for humility and boldness to live and communicate your message of the cross this day, for your glory.
