Trees and Fruit
Matthew 12:33-36
“…a tree is recognized by its fruit…For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him…”
What we “store up” in our hearts, what we watch, listen to, meditate on and think about, all influence the words we speak, texts we write, blogs we contribute to and facebook posts we send out. Our “fruit” are the ideas that we contribute to the world. These words and ideas are either “good” or “evil”. Good trees cannot produce “evil fruit,” just as evil trees cannot produce “good fruit”. Knowing the essence, the root and the motivation for living our lives exposes the kind of tree we are.
Are we living for ourselves, or are we living a life of joyful surrender to Jesus?
Our fruit will tell.
Jesus, I offer you my heart again today. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you.
