Humility and Greatness
Matthew 18:3, 4
“…unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Humility is an essential character quality if we are to see our need for salvation and Jesus. Humility is essential to enter the kingdom of heaven. We will never enter the kingdom of heaven on our terms. Not only are children dependent, they are teachable. The humility to both depend on Jesus and remain lifelong learners must mark all disciples of Jesus. Not only is humility essential for salvation and our growth in the kingdom of heaven, but humility is also the most prized quality which defines greatness in Christ’s kingdom. Humility brings glory to the Father and not to us. Just as Jesus humbled himself and took on the nature of a servant obeying the Father with death, so also Christ’s followers find greatness by humbling themselves.
Father God, I humble myself before you! I pray for a child-like humility to mark my life for your glory.
