Listening To The Word - 1 Year

DAY 279 OF 365

Risk-taking Obedience

Luke 19:8, 17
“…‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.’ ‘Well done, my good servant!…Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’”

The king is looking for trustworthy and faithful servants to whom he can assign responsibilities and inheritance to his kingdom. Zacchaeus’ speech of repentance prompted Jesus’ parable of the talents. Our responsibility to be faithful and risk what we have in a kingdom direction, determines our level of authority and responsibility in God’s kingdom. Faithfulness and risk-taking obedience will be rewarded. Zacchaeus later served as the first church bishop of Caesarea. He left tax collecting and became a leader in the kingdom of God.

Father God, I desire to be faithful today with what I have, and love with risk-taking obedience.
