Luke 14:26, 27
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters – yes, even his own life – he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”
The cost of our salvation was the death of Jesus. Jesus plainly says that the cost of entering his kingdom is high. We too must pay a price. Our love for Jesus must be so much greater than our love for our family that it is as if we hated them. We too must carry our cross and die to self to follow Jesus. The self-life cannot live in the presence of the crucified, resurrected Savior. We have been purchased by the blood of Jesus. We now follow him and not our own impulses and desires. We are apprentices learning to obey the voice of the Father, like Jesus.
Lord Jesus, I am not worthy to be called your follower. You are the way, the truth and the life. I pray for grace to carry my cross and follow you - for your glory.
