Continuing In Christ’s Teaching
2 John 8-9
“Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.”
A life of faith-filled obedience to Jesus and His Word is not the path of least resistance. Following Jesus, listening to His Word, obeying His Spirit’s promptings, requires constant vigilance. We can easily “run ahead” of God’s timing and counsel in our lives through selfish ambition or pride and forget to daily practice forgiveness, humility, solitude and sacrificial love. Our eyes shift off of Jesus onto ministry, or the needs of people, or our own reputation, and we become distracted, slightly off course. Jesus must be our life’s focus. His teaching is our road map for living. His Spirit is our Counselor. We have the promise of the Father and the Son as we continue in this path.
Lord Jesus, you are my pattern and my guide. Fill me with your love and truth this day so that I can follow and continue in your teaching.
