DAY 100 OF 365

Character and the Spirit’s Power

1 Samuel 10:6, 8 -12
“‘The Spirit of the Lord will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person…but you must wait seven days until I come to you and tell you what you are to do.’ As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day…the Spirit of God came upon him in power…‘Is Saul also among the prophets?’ A man who lived there answered, ‘And who is their father?’…”

The call and anointing of Saul as leader of Israel was a big turning point both in Israel’s history and in Saul’s life.

Can an encounter with the power of the Spirit change our lives forever?

Samuel’s promise to Saul was that he would be changed into a different person and that his heart would be changed. Yet Saul had not been discipled. He was thrust into leadership without the molding, forging, shaping process of discipleship. Character is the container that holds the anointing of the Spirit. With the question, “Is Saul also among the prophets?” came the following “…who is their father?”

Who was Saul’s spiritual father, and would he accept instruction, counsel and mentoring from others?

Would Saul even wait for Samuel’s arrival at the sacrifice seven days later?

Character is the container that is molded through surrender/submission to discipleship over time. Without that molding, the anointing cannot truly change us.

Lord Jesus, I offer myself to you again this day for molding, shaping and transformation, for your glory.
