[Psalms] Joyful DreamerSample
Dream Big
Do you have an idea? Do you have a thought? Let’s jump out there and let’s be like those who dream. What could God do when we take a step to go out there?
Let me share a couple of examples from my own life: In middle school, some dads and I decided to have a Bible study once a month before school—we called it “Dudes and Dads.” Sons and fathers; a dad would bring a devotional and another dad would bring donuts.
We had two rules. You had to sit by your dad and you had to hug your dad when you left.
For three years it was one of the blessings of my life, the other dads’ lives, and the kids’ lives as well. Then, now during high school time, some dads got together and said, “Hey, what if we get together as dads and pray?”
Once a month, we meet at a little restaurant and have eggs, waffles, and all the syrup our wives won’t feed us at home. Then we have a time of devotional, and we pray that God would do something great in the school. Many times, we end the time writing thank you notes to teachers and coaches, or to administration. They get in their inbox an encouraging note saying, “I’m praying for you and I appreciate you.”
Then some families got together and had a wonderful idea: “What if we kicked off the school year after the first week of school on a Sunday night?” They decided they were going to meet in the front parking lot of the school to do a time of praise and worship, a time of prayer and say, “God, we’re praying for the school. We’re asking You to do great things here.” They let everybody be a part of it.
Then parents from another school said, “Hey if they are doing that there, what if we do that here?”
What if 40 schools next year had a time of prayer to kick off the school year? What if every parent realized that their kid’s school is also their mission field? Let’s make a difference and let’s be dreamers of what God can do.
I once had a dream and it was called “A Little Bitty, Small Bible Study.” Three decades later, it is still reaching thousands upon thousands of students. Do not despise the days of small beginnings. Dream big.
About this Plan
God can do amazing, incredible things in your life. His dreams have to become our dreams. Psalm 126 says that when the people of God knew they were free, they were filled with laughter and joy. The greatest joy and laughter you can experience is when you get to be a part of God’s dreams. Keep dreaming of what God can do.
