Read To Me Daily Semester 4Sample
2CHRONICLES 34:
We could call this last part of 2nd Chronicles the back-and-forth-pendulum period of Judah’s history. After one fantastic king, the next two were terrible. And now Josiah is again like David.
ECCLESIASTES 10:
Here is a highlight from yesterday’s reading in Ecclesiastes:
Ecc. 9:11 GNT I realized another thing, that in this world fast runners do not always win the races, and the brave do not always win the battles. The wise do not always earn a living, intelligent people do not always get rich, and capable people do not always rise to high positions. Bad luck happens to everyone.
MATTHEW 22a:
Yesterday in Matthew 21 we heard the parable of the two sons and the parable of the evil farmers. We are in the portion of this Gospel where Jesus uses his parables to both warn and confront his enemies, showing divine wisdom that none can refute.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, of any good thing we have, and especially of any position You have allowed us to hold in the body of Christ, may we NOT hold onto it as if it were our possession. As soon as we do that, we become like the chief priests and the Pharisees. We get so proud of what we have achieved that we ask You, “What right do You have to make changes?” We stop listening to You and start doing things our own way. Whenever we take your place and try to steal the glory that is yours, we lose your blessing. We become like bad tenants in your vineyard. May we listen to those You send to us. May we be faithful to our commitments to You. May we rely on You as we seek to produce the fruits You desire in your vineyard. Help us to be humble like the older brother. Let us say: “I was so wrong to refuse your request to work in the vineyard today. Look at how much time I have wasted! OK, I’ll put on my work clothes and go to work now.”
