Go: A 40-Day Journey To The Never ReachedSample
The Price
We were shocked when cancer came knocking on our door in our first missions term. The moment I heard the word cancer, time stood still. I couldn’t catch my breath.
When frontline realities shatter romanticized missionary dreams, what does the Lord require? Missionary life is a balance of pursuing God’s call and clinging to hope while battling evil. Never-reached people are enslaved by Satan, and he won’t release them without a fight.
Saying yes to Jesus requires denying ourselves, taking up our cross, and following him (Matthew 16:24). Our commitment to Christ entails death. Before arriving on the field, one thinks blessings await. Then suffering comes. You desperately pray over your delirious child or are shocked by your husband’s cancer diagnosis. “Why?” threatens to drown out “Go!” Maybe you shouldn’t have uprooted your family and moved halfway around the globe. The enemy whispers: “You gave it a good try. No one will blame you for going home.”
Simon Peter’s induction into kingdom service came with full disclosure that it would end in death. When Jesus reaffirmed Peter’s call, he outlined the cost.
Peter pointed to John and asked, “What about him?” How many times have I asked this question? “What about them? I’ve given you everything. Why is my lot harder?” In moments of self-pity and grief, Jesus, lovingly answers me as he did Peter, “What is that to you? You must follow me.”
What is Jesus asking you to surrender so others can find freedom? When the nations cry out for deliverance, Jesus sends laborers. He sends the willing. There is a price for reconciling the lost to the Father. God’s ambassadors sacrifice the safe haven of our homeland and walk roads of heartache and sorrow.
Nations are waiting on the other side of your obedience. Choose to go. Go anyway, and you will see God’s glory unfold.
Go Anyway
Write a note, make a phone call, or pay a visit to encourage a missionary or other worker who may be going through a difficult time. Ask God for a special Bible verse, word, or gesture of kindness you can share with them. Thank them for their service and commit to praying for them.
Pray for Never Reached People Group: Ethnic Chinese Thai
Ask God to arrange for Chinese Thai individuals to have divine appointments with Christ-followers, wherever they may go.
