Day 7 - HOW TO BE AMAZING
Did you know that twice in the gospels we read that Jesus was amazed? Jesus, the Son of God, divinity in human form, was amazed by something He encountered while here on earth. And do you know what it was that amazed Him? On one occasion it was the amazing faith of a Roman soldier (Matthew 8:5-13) and on the other occasion He was amazed at the lack of faith of people in Nazareth (Mark 6:1-6).
Did you know that you and I can also amaze God with our faith? It’s possible to live a life that gets God’s attention. It’s possible to live such a life of faith and belief in God and His power to move, that He is not only amazed, but moved to action on our behalf.
The first verse of Hebrews chapter 11 is often regarded as a great definition of faith: “it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Faith is to believe before seeing, and to act according to that belief.
Here’s the incredible thing about the two examples of Jesus being amazed: when the Roman soldier had great faith, Jesus was able to do a great miracle. Yet when the people from Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth were lacking faith, He was unable to do many miracles there.
Because God is loving and compassionate, He desires to meet our needs and answer our prayers. He wants to move on your behalf. The only thing limiting God’s ability to work in our lives is our faith, and He is looking for evidence of faith. Read the story in Mark 2:1-12 of four friends whose faith was visible, it was evident. Again, it resulted in a powerful miracle.
We can experience this power at work in our lives too. We can get the attention of heaven. The question is, will you amaze Jesus with great faith, or is Jesus more amazed at your lack of belief? That’s a challenging thought to consider today.
Make it personal:
Write down some areas where you want to increase your faith and trust God for something that is as yet, unseen.
How can you step out and action your faith today?
In Mark 9:24 a man says to Jesus, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” Pray this today over every area where your unbelief is hindering your faith.
