Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 DaysSample
THE BIG PROMISE
[Scheduled Reading: 2 Samuel 1-8. Pay attention to Chapter 7.]
And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever (2 Samuel 7:16).
God promised to establish David’s throne FOREVER(2 Samuel 7:16).
That’s BIG!
I’m not sure what David thought of this promise. Does anything on earth last forever?
Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall. But forever is exactly what God had in mind.
God is talking about a Divine Kingdom.
To fast forward in our reading: 1,000 years after King David - and from the very line of David - Jesus (The SEED) will come to earth as the King of the Jews.
And one day still in the future, Jesus will resume his reign on earth and in the new heavens. And Christ will stand on the throne FOREVER.
Throughout the rest of the Bible, Jesus’ name is closely connected to Abraham, Judah… and David.
If there was a Mount Rushmore for famous fathers of The Seed, it would have to include David!
Making Connections
Remember Jacob’s blessing to Judah?
“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him”
(Genesis 49:10).
Judah’s blessing was the first hint that kings would come from his seed. Sure enough, David was that king.
