Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 Days

DAY 27 OF 60

FAMILY PROBLEMS

[Scheduled Reading: 2 Samuel 17-24]

David had several wives and nearly twenty sons.

Blended families with lots of wives can be complicated. And the fall-out from David’s sin makes it extra messy.

Sibling rivalry is intense.

Brother rapes sister (Amnon & Tamar). Brother kills a brother (Absalom & Amnon) for revenge.

Son seeks father’s life and dies in his pursuit to kill father (Absalom & David).

Sons jockey for authority (Adonijah & Solomon - see 1 Kings Chapter 1).

Let’s step back and look at the big picture.

A son from this dysfunctional family is going to carry forward The Seed. Which son does God choose?

(Remember, we know that David’s throne is going to endure forever. That’s God’s promise.)

Answer: God elects an offspring of Bathsheba, the woman with whom David committed his infamous adultery.

You’ll recall the baby conceived out of David’s adultery with Bathsheba did not live. But after Bathsheba’s husband died at battle (orchestrated by David), she became David’s wife and together they conceived another child…Solomon.

The Lord shows a special love for Solomon (2 Samuel 12:25).

The favor God shows for Solomon is about to get even BIGGER than the favor God showed David.

Then David comforted his wife, Bathsheba, and went in to her and lay with her, and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. And the Lord loved him25 and sent a message by Nathan the prophet. So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord. 2 Samuel 12:24-25
