Overcoming Fear

DAY 5 OF 5

OVERCOMING FEAR - HAVING A HEART OF GRATITUDE

Paul exhorts the church at Colossae by saying, “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

This really spoke to me since most of us work for someone, some company, or some institution. God tells us that whatever work we do, we should do it as if we're working for Him. What that means for me is that whatever the outcome, God loves me. No matter what situation you find yourself in, you can know that God loves you, too.

Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him and have been called according to his purpose.“

No matter what circumstance you find yourself in, God will work all things together for good since you love him.

Due to my hectic schedule and the amount of time spent traveling, most of my fellowship with others is via Skype. I was recently Skyping with a friend who challenged me with a question that changed my life. He asked me if - at that moment - I was enjoying the blessings that have been bestowed on my life. At first, I didn't understand the implications of what he asked. He was basically asking me where I was in my life at that moment, what I was doing, and if I liked doing it.

I thought about it some. I'm a cricketer and I travel - A LOT. Do I enjoy doing that wherever my job takes me? My honest answer was "NO" because sometimes, I allow the fears, anxieties, doubts, and people's comments about me to get the better of me.

But refocusing on his question of whether I enjoy the blessings showered on me actually made me focus less on my fears. I was able to worry less about my performance because I know what's in my heart. I think more about glorifying God when I walk out onto that field, no matter how much I score or don't score. I realised that magnifying God's name is more important to me than my name or my team's name.
