Overcoming Fear

DAY 4 OF 5

OVERCOMING FEAR - DEALING WITH THE IDOLS OF OUR HEART

As a sportsman, I am evaluated constantly on my performance and, ultimately, on wins. This is where I need to be careful and avoid making my performance an idol. I call it an idol because our ego gets bruised when our worth is dictated by our performance. For me, as a Christian, this has been a vital lesson to learn. It’s not been easy since I have goals for myself and, of course, I want to win.

But what I have come to realise is that winning can't be everything. Winning is good. We can do our best to win, but if that's all we are focused on, it can be an idol, too. Now that we have identified these potential idols, how do we draw a balance? Well, we need to work as hard as we can, put in every effort, and then we allow God to take over.

He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us, while also promising to bless the work of our hands. So, let's commit to him everything we do, and allow Him to lead us.

About this Plan

Overcoming Fear

South African cricketer JP Duminy shares his personal experience in facing and overcoming fears. He stresses the importance of looking at our all powerful creator God for understanding our true value and worth in order to entrust our fears to Him.
