Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of HopeSample
April 11
Introduction
Today’s reading includes two parables. The first teaches about being persistent in prayer, and the second about approaching God in prayer with a humble heart. Jesus then blesses little children, saying that one must receive the Kingdom of God like a child.
Today’s Scripture: Luke 18:17 (GNT)
[Jesus said:] “Remember this! Whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”
Today’s Reading
Luke 18:1-17
Reflect
Verse 14b in today’s reading quotes the same words of Jesus that we read on April 3 (Luke 14:11) about being humble. Why do you think this saying of Jesus appears twice in Luke’s Gospel? In what ways are the widow and the tax collector models for prayer? Are you able to identify with anyone in these parables? How would you describe your own prayer life? What is your understanding of what it means to “receive the Kingdom of God like a child”?
Pray
Lord God, have pity on me, a sinner! I offer you my humble heart and confess to you my shortcomings. Cleanse me of my sin and teach me to walk in the way of your truth. With childlike trust, I place my trust in you. Thank you for your steadfast love and forgiveness. Amen.
