Read To Me Daily Semester 2Sample
JOSHUA 8-9:
In yesterday’s reading in Joshua, the walls of Jericho “came a-tumbling down” after some skillful trumpet playing while marching around the city for 7 days. The city was devoted to destruction, meaning that this was God's judgment upon them. Everything was to be destroyed. Right after this amazing victory, Israel learned through a man named Achan that keeping treasures devoted to destruction makes oneself devoted to destruction.
PSALM 70:
Today we read Psalm 70. In this poem David pleads for help against his enemies. This poem is a repetition of the last part of Psalm 40.
ACTS 21b:
Yesterday in the first half of Acts 21, Paul, Luke, and the other companions arrived in Jerusalem. On the way, Paul heard the prophecies that he should not go to Jerusalem. Once there, he received advice from James and the others which turned out to be disastrous. So should Paul have followed the advice he was given by prophecy? My opinion is that he did the will of God which had already been revealed to him before those prophecies. In other words, the information in those prophecies that Paul would be arrested and beaten was from God. The interpretation that Paul should not go there was added by people, and Paul was right in not following their advice.
Let’s pray.
Our awesome God and heavenly Father, I see today that we should be convinced that nothing escapes your notice in our lives or even in our hearts. In verse 25 of Psalm 69, the writer said, “May their camps be left deserted; may no one be left alive in their tents.” That is just what happened to Achan. He was just one man among thousands, but You noticed. Then already in Acts, we heard Peter quote that same verse about Judas. Another clear example of your seeing what is in our hearts is found in the story of Ananias and Sapphira. Our Father, I cannot read those stories without thinking that I would have been so tempted to do what they did. Thank You Father for the forgiveness YOU have already given me and my listener. And Father, give us the assurance of your will like YOU gave to Paul. He knew that You wanted him to go to Jerusalem in spite of the trouble he knew would be there, and in spite of the interpretations given to the prophecies by others. Help us to know, that YOU are actively involved in our lives, and that all things will happen for us according to your will.
