JOSHUA 16-17:
In yesterday’s reading in the book of Joshua, Caleb received his special portion within Judah's allotment of land, and then we heard the detailed list of Judah's boundaries and towns. Chapter 15 may be the most challenging passage in all the Old Testament to read out loud! If you normally do not play the audio recordings for this reading plan, and if you don’t like reading lists of names, I suggest that you might enjoy the recordings for Joshua chapters 16-21.

PSALM 74:
Today’s psalm, chapter 74, might cause you to ask this question: Could this psalm really have been written by Asaph?! If so, Asaph was a prophet, as he seems to describe events that happened hundreds of years later immediately following the Babylonian conquest. It is possible Asaph could have been a 100-year-old man when writing this, and speaking instead of the destruction caused by Pharaoh Shishak. It must also be observed that the traditional titles for the Psalms were written centuries later than the Psalms themselves, and need not be considered part of the inspired text. My personal opinion is that Asaph was a prophet!

ACTS 24:
In our reading in the book of Acts yesterday, we heard that a plot was made to kill Paul. Paul's nephew “just happened” to get wind of it. The Roman commander ordered that Paul be taken to the governor in Caesarea.

Let’s pray.

Our Father and God, help us not to be misled by this world’s propaganda. And help us to not be misled because of envy. Lord, Satan forces want us to envy those who lead wicked lifestyles— people who are praised because they live the good life, possessing everything that we think is cool, and who proudly scoff at the idea of there being a God. Then we get bitter, and we wonder if there is any use in obeying you, our God, or in listening to your Word. Lord, help us to come to our senses! Please help us see the truth instead of being misled by the world. Please speak to us through your Word and use our fellowship with other followers of Christ to bring us to Asaph’s conclusions: 

Ps. 73:25 GNT What else do I have in heaven but you?
Since I have you, what else could I want on earth?
26 My mind and my body may grow weak,
but God is my strength;
he is all I ever need.
27 Those who abandon you will certainly perish;
you will destroy those who are unfaithful to you.
28 But as for me, how wonderful to be near God,
to find protection with the Sovereign Lord
and to proclaim all that he has done!
