Bloom: Fresh Devotionals For Girls Part Two

DAY 7 OF 7

Be A Peacemaker

Have you noticed that some friends always seem to have drama swirling around them? And then some friends don’t? Which group would you fall into? Truthfully, we’ve all been in both camps at one point or another.

As daughters of the king, we are called to be peacemakers. Not troublemakers who stir up drama, not even peacekeepers who may try to sweep real problems under the rug instead of dealing with them. Peacemakers demonstrate how to have inward peace with the Lord and cultivate a spirit of peace among their squad.

If we constantly stir up drama, it muddies the water, and it makes it harder to stand out as God’s kids.  Stirring up trouble and drama to look cool or interesting is not an activity or a hobby. It’s a sin.

But peace does not automatically just download into our lives, like a software update for our phones. Certain scriptures help us see that connection by using “pursue” and “peace” in the same sentence. Peace is something you have to seek, something you work toward. If you are pursuing a goal, you are doing everything you can to reach that goal.

So seek to be peacemaker. Pursue it. Do you say you want peace, but continue to gossip and spread rumors? That’s not pursuing peace. Do you stir up fights and arguments? That’s not pursuing peace.

As children of God, our actions and words should line up, so let’s make sure with both, we are pursuing peace. Choose to be a peacemaker, not a peace stealer.

Make friends with peace and break up with drama, “so that you may become blameless and pure, 'children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.' Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.” (Philippians 2:15)
