John will show us that even Jesus relates to the First Person of the Trinity as Father. Jesus is the Son, sent from the Father, doing the Father's work. Jesus Himself is willingly and obediently submissive to the Father. That's what real love looks like in the Godhead. Jesus and the Father are One because the Son only does what the Father tells Him to do. They both co-exist, are co-eternal, and are co-equal. But they serve different functions. The Father explains the plan, the Son obeys the plan. This doesn't make them unequal--it just explains their unique relationship. You don't have to be doing the same thing to be equal. You can be someone's servant and be equal with them. Just look at Jesus!
