Jesus Revealed Pt. 4 - Our Testimony: His LifeSample
Woman at the Well - Part 3
Thoughts on the Passage
Where do we worship?
The Samaritans believed that the temple of God was built on the top of Mount Gerizim, and the Jewish people worshiped God at Jerusalem. It was one of the reasons the Jewish people despised the Samaritans. Jesus deals simply with this question – God does not care WHERE, He cares HOW we worship. He wants us to worship in spirit (that means heart to heart with God) and truth (based on the Word of God).
Why did this lady bring up this issue of where to worship?
Most people see this woman asking a sincere question – not trying to create an argument. Jesus answers her differently that He would answer the Pharisees who wanted arguments. Jesus reveals the heart of worship – spirit and truth.
The Father is seeking such worshippers…
Worship is not us looking for God. It is our response to God looking for us. Worship is first God’s desire for us. It opens the door for meaningful relationship with Him. That is what He is after. Worship is not a ritual – doing the same thing over and over. It is us responding to His reaching out to us by worshipping in spirit and in truth. Worshipping God this way opens the door for relationship.
Now the woman gets why Jesus reaches out and talks to her – He is the Messiah and God is reaching out to her. God is seeking after her – to have her seek after Him.
In spirit and truth…
Application
God is seeking after us. Take time today to worship Him in spirit and truth.
Worship in spirit. Take time to hear His heart of love for you. Respond with a thankful heart, a joyful heart, and a heart filled with love for Him.
Worship in truth. Take time today to read God’s Word. Let the truth of His Word take root in our heart and let it grow.
Time to Pray
Father, today I choose to worship You in spirit and truth. Thank you for seeking me out this morning – just as You sent Jesus way out of His way to find this woman. I take time to listen to Your heart speaking to me. You will teach me many things that will make me a better child – a child of God that reflects Your love for my world. Give me joy today to celebrate Your goodness. Help me take time in Your Word to learn – and worship You in truth. I focus on what I am doing, but it results from You reaching out to me first. Help everyone of us experience this today – just like this woman did that day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan
We all have areas in our lives that we try to hide – we hide them from others, from God and to some extent, even from ourselves. But in one way or another, something happens that exposes these areas and we are left with a choice. In Plan 4 of 19 we see how Jesus works with us to expose areas in our lives so that our testimonies will bring people to Him.
