Be.Loved. 25 Simple Acts of Love to Change a LifeSample
DAY 25: Tell others about the image of God in them
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
Our reflections in the mirror often tell us more than we want to know. When we look at ourselves, do we like what we see? When we look in our eyes, do we see life? Hope? Pain? Shame? Scripture tells us that man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. If it is true that God knows every thought we have before we think it, and we know His love for us is everlasting even though we are sinful and fallen, then that changes everything.
Everything.
And this is true of every person you meet. This is how God feels about everyone. He sings and dances over them. He rejoices over them with joy. And to be clear, all of the good we see in others is nothing but the reflection of God’s goodness and beauty coming through them.
Even those far from God are able to reflect God’s beauty in small ways. One’s kindness is a reflection of God’s beauty. One’s gentleness or talent or even one’s striving for excellence reflects something of the nature of God.
As followers of Christ, we are called to draw these attributes of God out of others, and to point them out when we notice them.
Make today a day in which you take every opportunity to notice the good in others and to tell them, “Hey, I noticed ______ about you. It reminds me so much of God! Thank you for reflecting His _____ (characteristic) in the world!” To Christians, this statement will encourage and remind them that they are to always reflect His image well. To not-yet Christians, this statement may result in faith conversations you didn’t expect.
Today is the day for you to point out the attributes of God in others—take note of the things you notice of those around you that reflect the nature of God or point to God at work in their lives, and let them know. Consider all the ways you yourself also reflect God’s beauty. What a great task for the day!
Reflect on all the times you were able to do this and what God did in each situation. How can you be more intentional about doing this in the days to come?
