Be.Loved. 25 Simple Acts of Love to Change a LifeSample
DAY 20: Leave a gift for your mail carrier in the mailbox
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” – Hebrews 13:16
Too many people in our world today have thankless jobs, working long hours with little gratitude directed their way. This ought not be so, for it is only in the collective work of all that our world functions as it does. It can be too easy to take for granted those who serve in the background of our lives. Our attention draws to those more prominent—the caregivers and teachers, the neighbors and family.
But, for every person who captures our gratitude daily, there are ten others who have likely slipped under our radars. Are you guilty of this? If you are, don’t despair—you are like most people. Demonstrating simple acts of love takes diligence and intentionality. It is the ‘extra steps’ that show people they have value and are loved by God.
Today, leave a small (or large) gift for your mail carrier. Rain or shine, he or she shows up, working as unto the Lord. Maybe your gift is a simple note of thanks and a small gift card. Perhaps it is some homemade cookies. Ask God to guide you in deciding what to do.
And if possible, engage this person in conversation, asking his or her name and how long he or she has been doing this and what parts of the job he or she enjoys… And if possible, share the love of Jesus with this person!
Reflect on what you did and how you can develop this relationship for the glory of God. Consider others in your life who you can shower with gratitude, as well.
