Be.Loved. 25 Simple Acts of Love to Change a Life

DAY 17 OF 26

DAY 17: Bring a meal to someone

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45

Many of us will consider bringing a meal to someone experiencing a time of crisis or significant change—the birth of a baby or the death of a family member, perhaps. When those we are close to go into crisis mode, we may be quick to offer support and encouragement, and tangible offerings of love. This is a wonderful reflection of the body of Christ serving as it is called to do.

In fact, Romans 12:13-17 provides an excellent roadmap for us:

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.

The summation of all of these things is to seek humility and service in all things. It is very likely that the majority of many people’s lives are not spent in crisis (though, of course, there are awful reminders that too many people DO live their lives in constant fear and torment). And it is true that during times of need, people discover who their real community of friends are.

But what of the moments in between—the times when life is seemingly mundane and ordinary? What of the thousands of moments in between the crisis? How are you crying “Be loved!” to others in these moments?

Today, bring a meal to someone for no reason at all. Make a double-batch of whatever is on your menu, or stop by your local grocery store and pick up something special. Pray over who you want to bring it to and let them know that day that you will be bringing them something. It’s an unexpected gesture that will likely bring joy to their day.

Reflect on how you felt doing this. Strategize how you can follow-up with that person to begin to share the love of Jesus with him or her.
