Advent For YouSample
Win the prize
Have you ever watched a sports championship? In a soccer match, it seems like all the players do is run, run, run! They are all running for one purpose – to score a goal and win the game. When the winning goal is scored, they celebrate! In that moment, every single run was worth it. They won the game and received a beautiful trophy.
In order for those players to run that hard and score all those goals, they had to persevere when it got tough. James talks about this, “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
I’m sure there were times when those soccer players wanted to quit. They got tired. At times it was hard to see the prize they were longing for.
Does your relationship with God ever feel like that? It may feel hard to obey his commandments or to live the right way when everyone around you is not. It can feel hard to pray when you don’t understand why that situation is happening. But he doesn’t leave you alone in this time. He stays with you.
During these times it’s important to grasp the joy He gives us. Knowing the good work you did will produce something even better. Something good will come out of it, even when it feels hard and the easiest thing to do is quit.
How can you experience joy today with the knowledge that something great is being produced in you?

About this Plan
Advent is a time to reflect on the first coming of Christ and his second coming. During this week, readers will reflect on their present lives in light of both comings, what has already been accomplished for them in Christ and what has not-yet been fully completed. Living in that already-not-yet tension is key to understanding the Christian life. Readers will discover and reflect on how they should live in this already-not-yet tension.
