1. What’s your earliest memory? Mary’s voice? Playing with James? Or do you remember angels . . .?
2. Who were your best friends when you were 10 . . . 18 . . . 25?
3. Did you ever catch Mary looking hard at you while you played? Did your Aunt Elizabeth or Uncle Zecharias whisper as they watched you? Did they treat you differently?
4. Were you close to your cousin John when you were boys?
5. Did you wear a phylactery? Did you get excited every time to see the temple in Jerusalem?
6. Who was your favorite patriarch? King David? Or maybe Isaac . . .?
7. Did you resemble anyone in your family?
8. Which hill was your favorite to wander? . . . east to Mount Tabor where you would one day stand with Moses and Elijah? . . . west where you could see the Mediterranean glisten in the sun? . . . south toward Megiddo where armies marched through history. . . and where you will one day ride on a white horse into the Valley of Armageddon? . . . or did you look further south to Jerusalem and to another hill?
9. Which of Mary’s homemade dishes brought you home the quickest?
10. What family tradition quieted you? Passover or Yom Kippur—Atonement Day?
11. Did you ever comfort the Passover lamb before you spilt its blood?
12. How old were you when Joseph died? How did you feel at his funeral?
13. Did you whistle while you worked at your craft? Did you enjoy the people you met and worked with in Sephoris? Did you sit at night with the other men in the gates of Nazareth?
14. When you visited Jerusalem for feast days, did you ever see a crucifixion?
15. Did you ever wish to stay in Nazareth? Settle down, raise a family?
16. Did you miss your Heavenly Father? How did you cope with the humility of humanity?
17. Did 30 years seem like a moment . . . or an eternity?
18. What did you pray about that no one else knew?
19. How did you know it was time to leave?
20. Did you ever think of me?
