The Ascent

DAY 14 OF 15

FIGHTING FOR UNITY

We are all different.

As beautiful as this fact is, it can sometimes lead to friction. We may want different things, think in different ways, see different solutions to problems.

Unity doesn’t happen by accident. It is something we need to be intentional about and even fight for.

We can often get our priorities mixed up, and put our own agendas and ideas at the top. But instead, the Bible encourages us to put unity before our own ambitions. That might look like choosing to put differences aside and work together even when we don’t agree on certain things.

Isn’t this exactly what love does? Love is not self-seeking, but willing to put others first. Maybe unity speaks louder than being right. Jesus expressed real love in that He was willing to lay His life down for others; for us. In John 13:35, Jesus challenges His disciples and says “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

About this Plan

The Ascent

The Ascent… is an invitation to climb. It’s an invitation to proximity. It’s an invitation to intimacy. In the Old Testament there are 15 psalms of ascent. They are songs that Israel sang on their way to celebrate God at festivals. They express amazing grace and they quiet anxious fears. They are songs that provide courage and support as we travel the road of faith and discover who we are and what God’s called us to. It has been said that the Psalms of Ascent are like placing your feet in the footprints of others and reminding ourselves to be moved again; to keep walking forward in the direction of God. This devotional is an invitation to lift our eyes and to ascend the heights; to becoming Jesus’ climbing companions.
