The Ascent

DAY 12 OF 15

CHOOSING HUMILITY

Psalm 131 starts with “My heart is not proud, Lord”. It can be a confession, but also a prayer.

It’s so easy for us to compare ourselves to everybody else. When we do, it’s often comparing our worst against someone else’s highlight reel. But we all have a unique part to play in the body of Christ. We may play different parts but we all need each other. When we realise that we have different gifts we can be confident in who we are; confident and yet humble enough to realise that we can’t do much on our own.

If we are willing to serve others and build God’s Kingdom together, He can do so much more with what we bring. Together we can see God’s plans and purposes being fulfilled, instead of comparing and competing against one another.

About this Plan

The Ascent

The Ascent… is an invitation to climb. It’s an invitation to proximity. It’s an invitation to intimacy. In the Old Testament there are 15 psalms of ascent. They are songs that Israel sang on their way to celebrate God at festivals. They express amazing grace and they quiet anxious fears. They are songs that provide courage and support as we travel the road of faith and discover who we are and what God’s called us to. It has been said that the Psalms of Ascent are like placing your feet in the footprints of others and reminding ourselves to be moved again; to keep walking forward in the direction of God. This devotional is an invitation to lift our eyes and to ascend the heights; to becoming Jesus’ climbing companions.
