Challenge Accepted: Bible

DAY 2 OF 7

The next three chapters of John contain some of the greatest highs in his ministry, and some of the lowest lows – at least, that’s how it must have felt for John. Jesus goes from healing to healing, one miracle after another, and even stands up to stuffy and misguided religious leaders. I’m sure John could practically taste the momentum that was building, which felt like it culminated when Jesus fed 5,000 people with just a couple fish and a few loaves of bread. But then, Jesus’ tone changes a bit. He starts sharing some uncomfortable truths with the people hanging around just hoping for another free meal, and as He talks about sacrifice and how following Him won’t be rainbows and unicorns the whole time, many desert Him. I’m sure it was quite an emotional roller coaster for John, but he knew Jesus was the Son of God and was going to hang on for the whole ride.

As you read today, ask yourself these two questions:

  • What verse or moment stood out to me the most?
  • What can I do with that in my life today?

About this Plan

Challenge Accepted: Bible

Of the 12 Disciples, John was the closest to Jesus. So, his 21 chapters outlining the life and ministry of Jesus are not just historical fact; they are the fond memories of Jesus’ best friend. As you spend the week in this biography of Jesus, try to read it from the perspective of a friend reminiscing on the amazing things he witnessed in the presence of Jesus Himself.
