Your Hobbies Cow

Hobbies are the most neglected of the seven (Cows) spheres. Most people look at them as a necessary evil. Only to be indulged if one has time and money. However, God created us with a need to be wowed. The reason why people fill stadiums watching a few men or women fighting for a ball is that it is in every one of us to want to be wowed. That is also why the film industry is a multi-billion dollar industry.

In Genesis, when God created trees, He didn’t just create trees for food. He also created some that were just good to look at. Genesis 2:9 says it all. “And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” In the same way that there were parts in the Garden of Eden that were made simply for enjoyment, there should be things in our own lives that bring us enjoyment, such as hobbies.

There is a need in us not to take ourselves seriously all the time. We need to have some time when we could just “let the hair” down and do things that have nothing to do with work but just for excitement’s sake. 

Being wowed is not evil, but a need that God created us with. A hobby is not something that you only do when you have spare time or extra money. It is something that you need to nurture just like the other six areas.
